Love!

My Love

I finished writing a love scene about an hour ago. Love, as in, falling in Love. Making people fall in love on the printed page is always a challenge for me. There’s so much that has to go into each scene to make the love believable. Throwing male & female together in a bunch of scenes just doesn’t cut it. Love is the way two people look at each other, touch each other, think of each other, the passion they feel for each other; it always takes me a lot of thought and hard work to capture this. I know I’m on the right track when I myself start to fall for my hero. I know that sounds crazy, but it’s true. If I read my book and don’t feel anything for the male lead, nobody else will either.

Diana Gabaldon‘s book, Outlander, is a perfect example of this. I wonder how many women fell in love with Jamie Frasier while reading Outlander. I did. He and Claire seemed so real, you couldn’t help but fall for Jamie right along with Claire.

So that’s what I try to do when I write Love. When done right, it doesn’t seem contrived, you believe it and are ready to fight with the heroine to keep “your” man!

Happy Reading!
